Nigeria is in West Africa bordered with Niger on the North Atlantic Ocean . Located on south Benin and of west Cameroon , Nigeria lies between the Tropic of Cancer and the Equator.

There are three main rivers Niger , Benue and where these two rivers meet, they form the third river, the Delta.

Nigeria is known to have three main climate seasons: Rain season, Dry season, and the Harmmatan season that occurs between the months of December to January.

The state capital is Abuja and the country has 36 states with the population of 140 million.

Nigeria became independent in October 1st 1960 and a Republic in 1963. It is presently under a democratic government running under the president of Nigeria , Sir Olusegun Obasanjo.

The religions in Nigeria are Christianity, Islam, and the traditional African culture composing of 45% of Christians, 45% of Muslims and 10% of the Africans. Nigeria has many ethnic groups with different dialects. The main ones are Hausa, Yoruba, Ibo, Efik, Ijaw, Edo and the Ibibios to mention a few.

The currency in Nigeria is called Naira and the coins are called Kobo.

Nigeria is the fourth country in the world that produces oil (such as crude oil) and petroleum in addition to minerals such as limestone, gold, iron, and zinc.

The country imports machinery, cars, tobacco, chemical textiles and beverages. It exports petroleum oil, cocoa palm kernel beans, yams, hide, skin and cotton.
