MEK UNA DANCE
African Dance workshop with live drumming
Mek una dance mean "let us dance". It is an experience for all ages, genders and shapes. In this class people learn the African art of movement, rhythm and techniques also self expression and community building. This dance session starts with a rhythmic warm up and prepares participants mind and body for a high energy and fun experience. Movements are explained and demonstrated one at a time until all of the dance steps are completed, these are expressive movements that requires mutual awareness and co-operation.
Most of the dance movements have deep significant meanings. The energy rises from the feet through the leg, hip, arm then through the entire body and the drum rhythm compels you to dance as a vibrant and positive energy of freedom fills the room.
In this class we maintain the tradition of dancing barefoot, African or loose fitting clothing is required. The dancing is also an excellent cardiovascular exercise for your workout. If you would like to bring this experience to your community, Mek Una dance is suitable for:
